Each file models a particular aspect of transit information: stops, routes, trips, and other schedule data. The details of each file are defined in the GTFS reference. An example feed can be found in the GTFS examples. A transit agency can produce a GTFS feed to share their public transit information with developers, who write tools that consume GTFS feeds to incorporate public transit information into their applications.

GTFS can be used to power trip planners, time table publishers, and a variety of applications, too diverse to list here, that use public transit information in some way. Many applications are compatible with data in the GTFS format. The simplest way to make a feed public is to host it on a web server and publish an announcement that makes it available for use.

A list of transit agencies who provide public feeds is available on the GoogleTransitDataFeed project site.

If you're at a public agency that oversees public transportation for your city, you can use the GTFS specification to provide schedules and geographic information to Google Maps and other Google applications that show transit information.

If you provide a transportation service that is open to the public, and operates with fixed schedules and routes, we welcome your participation; it is simple and free. Additional resources are available on the Community page.

Much of the data is identical to our GTFS feed, but it also includes some extra features like real-time departures and trip planning. If you are attempting to get large amounts of information, use our GTFS feed instead. For the details of what information is availble through the API, check out the methods on the right. To ensure the availability of our information to all our customers, we've implemented a limit on the number of requests you can make to the API.

To help us keep our services up and running, minimize the number of requests you make, always cache the data if you can. The limit is currently 1, requests per hour, but if you feel your circumstances warrant a higher limit, contact us and we can discuss it.

If your key reaches its limit, you'll receive an email only once per day indicating you've reached your limit. We are providing the same autocompleting API that is used on our website for public consumption.

That these sorts of organizations have a default expectation of open schedule data was unthinkable in I'm proud of all the transit community has accomplished, and excited about what's next. Closing gtfs-data-exchange will pave the way for the next chapter of open transit data. It is also built to expose schedule data from a single consistent database which makes it even easier for developers to access schedule information.

Most importantly though, Transitland has a corporate sponsor Mapzenso developers can rely on it whereas gtfs-data-exchange has always been a side project, intermittently available and sometimes neglected.

American author, inventor and futurist Raymond Kurzweil has become well known for his predictions about artificial intelligence and the human species, mainly concerning the technological singularity.

He predicts that Artificial Intelligence would outsmart the human brain in computational capabilities by mid-21st century. His first book, The Age of Intelligent Machines, published in 1990, put forth his theories on the results of the increasing use of technology and predicted the explosive growth in the internet, among other predictions.

Later works, 1999's The Age of Spiritual Machines and 2005's The Singularity is Near outlined other theories including the rise of clouds of nano-robots (nanobots) called foglets and the development of Human Body 2.

Kurzweil's first book, The Age of Intelligent Machines was published in 1990. It forecast the demise of the Soviet Union due to new technologies such as cellular phones and fax machines disempowering authoritarian governments by removing state control over the flow of information.

He also stated that the Internet would explode not only in the number of users but in content as well, eventually granting users access "to international networks of libraries, data bases, and information services". The third and final section of the book is devoted to elucidating the specific course of technological advancements Kurzweil believes the world will experience over the next century.

Titled "To Face the Future", the section is divided into four chapters respectively named "2009", "2019", "2029", and "2099". For every chapter, Kurzweil issues predictions about what life and technology will be like in that year. The device was portable, but not the cheap, pocket-sized device of the prediction. While this book focuses on the future of technology and the human race as The Age of Intelligent Machines and The Age of Spiritual Machines did, Kurzweil makes very few concrete, short-term predictions in The Singularity Is Near, though longer-term visions abound.

Kurzweil predicted that, in 2005, supercomputers with the computational capacities to simulate protein folding will be introduced. In 2010, a supercomputer simulated protein folding for a very small protein at an atomic level over a period of a millisecond. For example, some fast-food places use grilled chicken that contains gluten.

That one really stunned me. If even meat isn't always safe, you know you've really got to keep an eye out. It seems like you should just be able to peruse the ingredients list, or even just the allergen statement that many labels have. Alas, it's not that simple. Allergen labeling requirements include wheat, but not gluten specifically. While wheat is the primary source of gluten in our food supply, it's not the only one by a long shot.

All kinds of seemingly innocuous things contain gluten as a food additive. These can include maltodextrin, natural flavors, food starch, and a host of others that you'll find in all kinds of foods.

Especially while you're adjusting your shopping habits, it's a great thing to have printed out and in your purse or wallet:As you find products that you can eat, write them down. That way, you'll save time at the grocery store instead of having to read the nutrition label every time.

I didn't have anything like this when I ended up having emergency surgery, and my poor husband had some frustrating experiences trying to find things for me. Another issue you need to be aware of is cross-contamination. The simple act of putting a gluten-free bagel in your toaster can transfer small amounts of gluten to this previously safe food. If you live with people who don't share your diet, you really need to be careful. When it comes to cutting boards, avoiding wood is a good idea, since it's absorbent.

I use plastic, and I have one that's just for gluten-containing foods and one that's kept free of them. Same goes for your colander.

To save on dishes, you can also prepare your food first and then re-use things for everyone else's. In my kitchen, you'll also find two butter dishes in use so I can keep mine from free from all those little glutinous crumbs that are transferred from the knife. My butter is kept on a higher shelf as well, so my kids don't accidentally grab it.
